Orphans & Widows Aid (OWAID) is a nonprofit organization supporting orphaned children, widows and displaced families in East and Central Africa. We connect immediate help with the stability and opportunity a family needs over time.

Founded in Nashville in 2025 by the Venant and Joan Sindayigaya family, our Christian calling is expressed through practical care: safe housing, school support, healthcare, essentials and skills that can lead to greater independence.

A school year can begin with a uniform, a notebook and someone who believes in a child’s future. OWAID supports tuition and learning materials so financial barriers do not have the final word.

Annual education planning targets start at $85.25 for Nursery–Primary 3. Upper primary stages have their own costs. Talk with the team about a student’s current needs and the sponsorship arrangements.

For a widow or young person rebuilding after displacement, the opportunity to earn can change a household’s outlook. Sewing, farming, bicycle repair, mat making and bricklaying turn practice into useful skills.

100% of donations go toward helping orphans and widows through practical care, including shelter, food, education, medicine and essential support.

Who has funded OWAID’s work so far?

Since 2022, all monetary donations for this work have come from the Sindayigaya family, totaling $9,525. Growing needs now exceed what one family can manage, and OWAID invites others to help.

Who does OWAID support?

OWAID supports orphaned and vulnerable children, widows and displaced families, with a focus on refugee communities in Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania and war-affected families in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
