Permanent Housing
Donate toward permanent housing
for African refugee orphans and widows.
Help widows and orphaned children move toward safe, durable housing in refugee communities.

A safe place to begin again
A roof that protects. A place that belongs.
A temporary shelter can make every rainy season uncertain. OWAID’s housing program works toward durable homes built with locally available mud bricks and iron-sheet roofs, giving displaced families a more stable base for daily life.
Our basic three-bedroom housing target is approximately $500 for materials and labor. The final scope depends on local costs, land permissions, weather and the condition of the site. Our aim is a home that can serve a family for 20 years or more with appropriate construction and maintenance.
We coordinate the work with people who understand the community. Materials, construction progress and handover should be recorded so donors can follow how a housing gift becomes practical shelter.
- Locally sourced bricks, roofing and construction materials
- A clear household need and an agreed building plan
- Safe construction, handover and continued care

The next step matters
More than shelter: room for a future.
A secure home supports everything around it: a child can keep schoolbooks dry, a mother can store household essentials, and a family can plan beyond the next storm. Housing belongs alongside education, healthcare and a route to earning a living.
- Ask about current needs and available projects
- Discuss the purpose and scope of your support
- Request appropriate updates as the work progresses

Questions about
permanent housing.
What does the $500 housing target cover?
It is OWAID’s approximate target for a basic three-bedroom home using local mud bricks, iron roofing and local labor. Ask us for the current project scope and costs before funding a specific home.
Can a group fund a whole home?
Yes. A family, church, business or community group can contact OWAID to discuss a housing project, its location, budget and progress updates.
Is a 20-year lifespan guaranteed?
The program aims for long-term housing of 20 years or more. Durability depends on site conditions, construction quality, materials and ongoing maintenance.
