A story shared by OWAID

A safe roof
for Rebecca’s family.

OWAID shares the story of Rebecca, a mother of four who fled the Democratic Republic of Congo after losing her husband. In Nakivale, the family spent two years in a temporary shelter that offered little protection during storms.

Through OWAID, Rebecca received a basic three-bedroom home made from mud bricks and iron sheets. The change meant her children could sleep under a more dependable roof.

  • Shelter that supports daily stability
  • Practical construction using local materials
  • A family able to plan beyond the next storm
“For the first time in years, my children slept through the rain without crying.”

Rebecca, in the account supplied by OWAID.

Learning changes possibilities

John’s journey
into the classroom.

In another story shared by OWAID, nine-year-old John had not yet had the chance to attend school. As an orphan in Kyangwali, the cost of learning materials and tuition stood between him and the classroom.

OWAID describes how education support helped John begin primary school and learn to read. He hopes to become a doctor. The annual early-primary planning target of $85.25 illustrates the practical costs a sponsor can help meet.
